We love talking about birds and helping others enjoy birds and birdwatching. This is a question we are often asked by new wild bird enthusiasts.
Question: Where should I hang my hummingbird feeders?
Answer: When you first start feeding hummingbirds, you may want to place your feeders where the hummingbirds will find them. Start by placing the hummingbird feeder by any cone-shaped flowers you may have in your yard. Once the birds have found your feeder gradually start moving the hummingbird feeder to where you can enjoy it the most. We have placed ours where we can see them when we eat breakfast. I would suggest a Best 1 Hummingbird Feeder if you live in a windy area. If you can place the feeder in a shady area it will help keep the nectar fresh longer.
I would like to remind everyone that you may mix a sugar water solution of 1 part sugar to 4 parts water for your hummingbird feeders. We heat ours in the microwave so that the sugar will dissolve completely. Cool the mixture before feeding the birds. Please keep your feeders clean, we suggest changing the solution and cleaning your feeders every 3 days. Extra sugar water can be kept in the refrigerator.
