Range: Canada and northern United States. The wintering and breeding ranges from northern Alaska to the southern tip of Baja, Mexico.
Fact: Unlike most birds the loon has solid bones which makes them less buoyant. They can stay underwater for up to 5 minutes by conserving oxygen by slowing their heart rate.
