Latin Name:  Marmota caligata

Range:  These large rodents range from Alaska south to northern Oregon, most of Montana and parts of Idaho.

Fact: The Hoary Marmot, which can weigh up to 20 pounds, will emit a high pitched, shrill whistle whenever a predator enters its territory.  This whistle can be heard up to a mile away.
