The modern day myth of Big Foot started in 1951 with a photo by Eric Shipton of a footprint. The photograph cause considerable media attention. The folklore of Big Foot was enhanced in 1958 with more footprints found in Del Norte County, California by Gerald Crew a bulldozer operator for a road construction company. The Humbolt Times ran the story with pictures of plaster casts of the footprints.
