The earliest sketches of bicycles were by Gian Giacomo Caprotti a student of Leonardo da Vinci in 1493. However, it wasn't until 1817 the first bicycle, called a draisine, was manufactured in Germany. In France in 1860 the bicycle received its name and has been a popular form of transportation since then.
