Attacus atlas is a large Saturniid moth found in the tropical and sub-tropical of SE Asia and Malaysia. It is named for Atlas the Greek titan who held up the celestial spheres. The larvae eat the leaves of citrus and evergreen trees but the silk they produce is wooly and not economic. The Atlas Moth is among the largest in the world with a wingspan of up to 10 inches.
